Walter Lietha
Folk, Geschichten und Lieder
There are few artists in Switzerland who have dedicated themselves to the art form of lyrical-musical storytelling for such a long time and have performed on Swiss stages for as long as Walter Lietha from Trin in the canton of Graubünden. Since his first album in 1974, Walter has been touring—with some breaks—but he has always been active. For a time, he ran his bookstore and antiquarian bookshop, "Narrenschiff," in Chur and was known only to insiders. This was partly because the media had ostracized him and associated him with circles to which he did not belong, or only peripherally.
In 2025, Stefan Haupt (Stiller, Zwingli, Utopia Blues) made the film "Drum sing i, grad drum" in his honor, which is based on Play SRF The film, which can be seen here, tells Walter's story and shows how censorship was possible in Switzerland during the youth unrest. Along with the concert tour with longtime companions and guests such as Stephan Eicher, Sophie Hunger, and Michael von der Heide, he has decided to embark on a more intimate tour.
From 2027 onwards, he will be touring the stages of German-speaking Switzerland with a new trio featuring Matthias Lincke (violin, vocals) and Stefanie Hess (double bass, percussion, vocals). Whether performing for 50 or 400 people, Walter always manages to shine and captivate his audience with his songs and stories.
We are looking forward to the concerts with an incredibly exciting musician, researcher, poet and collector who has a view of the world that has partly been forgotten or pushed aside by the digital world.
„"I would like to try to touch people the way Walter Lietha touched me when I was a 16-year-old lost youth."“ (Stephan Eicher)
„"Just a few of the words I associate with Walter Lietha and his songs: poetic, genuine, credible, courageous, unique, free, personal, philosophical, humanistic, mystical, valuable, profound, distinctive, independent, consistent… There is so much more to say, and I am therefore very happy that Walter is active again and will hopefully give many people the opportunity to have their own new experiences with his songs. I wish him many open ears and hearts."“ (Andreas Vollenweider)
